Interesting as that sounds, it is real. You can argue against it if you like, but it is as true as days and nights. Knowingly or not, there’s first an invisible influence over our lives that energizes us or circumstances around us. Many say, we are a product of our environments. A nation returning from slavery after 400 years plus still demonstrated their acquired lifestyle of centuries of oppression in the wilderness, despite the miracles that God the Father did in their midst.

Who or what invisibly controls you? Under whose authority do you take commands? Are you under God or Satan? Or still influenced by the unpleasant past ingrained in your subconscious? Who is in control of your life?

Me of course! I heard you. And you maybe right. I will get to it.

If you travel from city to city within a country or outside, you will definitely attest to the fact that culture and lifestyle differ. There are prevailing toxic lifestyles orchestrated/ influenced by an invisible satanic prince of the power of the air. Or maybe just human machination?

An Example

Every country of the world has one or more of their past controlling those that allow the influence in their lives.

There’s a certain country (sounds like what the Lord Jesus would say to ensure anonymity – Lol); in this country, the prevailing lifestyle is oppression and dictatorship in leadership within the region, be it secular or spiritual.

I was (am) more curious and concerned at what drives leadership styles of many or what influences you as a follower. I have seen middle management more vile than the senior ones; and senior more than middle. Or both doing same. I shrink at the sight or hearing of vile words that proceed out of the mouths of many in this position. I do not blame them but their ignorance to understand that there is an invisible force in operation, influencing behaviors (unless you break away from it).

There are many factors but one or more stands out. One of such is; we are likely to be influenced by what we have been through (born or unborn) in our past lives. That condition rules invisibly till date unless you are intentional about changing the way you think and live. And you let bygone be bygone.

Pre-independence, this country was under colonial rule (call it dictatorial rule) for about 46 years (1914 – 1960). All forefathers under the colonial reign only experienced domination by force. Ruled with force without their voices being heard. As hard as they tried, it was difficult. They became a product of their environments. The lifestyle permeated them.

1960 came and they regained independence. It was time to chart the course of their own destinies and generations unborn. But guess what! That freedom was subjected to another 33 years of dictatorial military rules. Democracy hijacked in 1966 by fathers who had learnt the way of oppression and dictatorship. Military ruled from 1966 till 1999 except a short interregnum between 1979 to 1983.

In total, the born and unborn generations had their parents’ minds cumulatively exposed to 79 years of dictatorial rule (i.e 46 years of colonialism and 33 years of military).

So all have lived in that environment for decades. The prince of the power of the air prevailing over those years is still at work, depending on if you yield to it (Ephesians 2:2). Sadly, many are yielding to it.

It is a fact that many leadership in all organizations will subconsciously be dictatorial or forceful. Dictatorship. Threats. Abuse. Oppression. Name them.

Sadly enough it’s not their faults. Not your fault. I reckon. Not mine, either.

I repeat: not theirs, nor yours, since you could not choose where you were born. But we were all in their loins biologically. Everyone emerged from 79 years of oppression.

Like the Biblical children of Israel that left Egypt under Moses, the culture and lifestyle to which they were exposed for 400 years plus influenced them as they journeyed into freedom. The true freedom that eluded many except Joshua and Caleb. It was very clear that God wanted them to depart from that influence and pursue holiness, love and justice. God wanted them to be free. God wanted them for Himself. He fought for them. He provided for them. He gave the commandments by which they could live better than other nations. He made covenant with them. In the same way, you and I have received of the Lord. But there’s a choice to make and live by: to be free and experience freedom under the covenant wrought by the blood of Jesus or remain in bondage inside grace dispensation.

What Influences You

Paul, by the Holy Spirit, revealed to us in Ephesians‬ ‭2:1-3 what negatively control us if we do not stand against them, “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.”

Did you see those above underlined words? Number one: The course of this world. This refers to the lifestyle and condition of living in which you and I might have been subjected to or still permit to influence us. Number two is the prince of the power of the air – satanic power that rules over territories to influence behaviours and lifestyle over a period of time. That invisible satanic being is still at work even since pre-independence era and now. Yes, they are.

If you are a leader (even followers), you need to constantly ask yourself: what influences the way I lead? Am I subconsciously under the influence of demons or ambition? Am I driven by pride of life or lust of the eyes or lust of the flesh? Is my leadership style influenced by any of these? Or influenced by desire to please mortals? Am I brutalizing people instead of building? Am I tearing apart instead of uniting?

Learn From The Ants

Let me draw a little parallel from the secular organisations. Even the Lord Jesus said in Luke 16:8, “The children of this world in this their generation are wiser than the children of light.” Do you know that these ones take care of their people? They devise strategic ways to make them excel. Respect for their people is core in their culture. Google the core values of many of them, you will see that respect for people features in one way or the other in their culture. No cancel culture. They go further to develop their people in managerial science and other skills.

Was it for nothing that Moses was well learned in all the most advanced education of Egypt? In Acts 7:22, it was recorded that, “Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.”

No wonder he could negotiate diplomatically the transit passages across different nations they passed. He understood what it took to rule and administer equity and justice. He had seen and experienced it while acting as a prince in Egypt.

Have you been trained in the skills you need to succeed as a leader? Or you are just on a jet speed to lead?

You are running too fast beyond your ability. Be not like a Titanic ship. Go and study what made it crash! Infact, this should be an assignment for you. Learn it for yourself.
Proverbs 6:6 says, “Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise!” Well, I know you are not a lazy bone. And don’t try to be one.

Now, corporations learn about how to lead for maximum results.

People centricity is at the core of who they lead and what they do. So should yours be!

How To Fix The Issues

Remember, that type of 79 years of oppressive leadership wants to manifest in you and I except you are intentional to change You. Below are few plans to solve the issues (there are definitely more out there).

Number one: Recognize that You are either under the influence of God or Satan or your environment. You need to know that you belong to God and satanic beings have no spiritual right to influence your life and mine if you are in Christ. Don’t give devil a chance. Ephesians 4:27.

Don’t let the prince of power of oppression over the territory influence you to be an instrument of cruelty. In the name of Jesus, command that satanic power to desist from its maneuver over your life. Command its stronghold to be broken from you in the name of Jesus. Remember, whatsoever you ask in His name, He will do. John 14:14. God has delivered you from the kingdom of darkness and translated you into the kingdom of His dear Son. Colossians 1:13

Number two: When you break the stronghold, then learn how to be a better leader or follower. Spend time pouring over scriptures on fruit of the spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Galatians 5: 22 – 23. Desire that the fruit will manifest from your spirit in whatever you do. Ask the Lord to help you. “And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient…” 2 Timothy 2: 24

Number three: If you are in a leadership position, you need to develop your skills in managerial science. You need to go to business school or take online courses in it. If you are too busy or old to do so, then get help. Engage professionals to assist you, either as an advisor or assistant or trainer.

You cannot lead people through command and control approach of the military or colonialism. You’ve got to stop it!

Go and take courses on leadership and managerial science. You cannot be effective unless someone in the field teaches you the practical ways or you learn it.

It comes with learning, experience and exposure. A Google management understands scope of managerial assignments better than you managing few tens or thousands of people. Why? They manage 156k plus employees and nearly 4 billion users worldwide. They have learnt (sometimes through hard ways) how not to manage people and many ways to get the best out of humans under them. Their sample size is huge. Their experience is very broad.
Now, the ivory towers have distilled those corporate learning into managerial courses in classrooms and online for you to learn and mix with divine knowledge. Don’t wave it off! That is similar to the wisdom of Solomon admonishing us in Proverbs 6:6 saying, “Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise!”

That is like saying, Take courses on people management and human performance, learn from them and become wise!

If you are running into hitches in your leadership journey, that’s part of the solution for you. Within your fold there might be someone or a group that can point you in that direction. That we are a leader does not mean we know it all. Oppressors think like that. Are you one? You shouldn’t be!

Don’t let pride rob you of the opportunity to the next phase of your life.

Go and do something today. Make a clear decision to break away from being an oppressive leader into being under the authority of Christ Jesus.

As you listen to the songs below, remember 2 Timothy 1:9 says, “For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.”

Please let us know how we can help you grow in faith. Send us an email at life@anchorfoundations.org and we will be glad to point you in the direction that can keep your faith growing as you love the Lord. We are waiting to hear from you. God bless you. Jesus is Lord!
